Japan Disaster Relief
In April 2011, MRIS Cares responded quickly to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The MRIS Cares Japan Disaster Relief project selected three organizations based on direct donation impact, connection to housing assistance, and opportunity for local support.
MRIS donated $15,000 to Help the Children, $10,000 to the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA), and $5,000 to the local Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
The results? MRIS’ donation to Help the Children will send hundreds of food, medicine, and water boxes to the devastated Northern region of Japan. MRIS donated funds will go directly to the AREAA relief fund to assist people in Japan’s Tohuku region to rebuild their homes. Locally, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) mobilized approximately 72 personnel from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department using approximately 75 tons of rescue equipment.
The MRIS staff is always eager to get involved and proud to contribute to such important relief efforts. The MRIS Cares Japan Disaster Relief project had 100% staff participation during our "Skip Lunch, Help a Bunch" events. MRIS employees donated what they would have spent on lunch towards the Japan Disaster Relief efforts in exchange for pizza lunch provided by the MRIS Executive Management team.
With the combined support of MRIS Cares, the Charitable Contributions Committee and our generous staff, together we can continue to make a real difference when and where it’s needed most.
