Announcing Open Nominations for the Inaugural Adam D. Cockey, Jr. Community Leadership Award
ROCKVILLE, MD (June 21, 2012) — Metropolitan Regional Information Systems, Inc. (MRIS), the Mid-Atlantic Multiple Listing Service (MLS) that facilitates nearly $100 million a day in real estate transactions, today announced its call for nominations for the first annual Adam D. Cockey, Jr. Community Leadership Award. Named after former MRIS Chairman of the Board, Adam D. Cockey, Jr., the inaugural award recognizes real estate professionals who have demonstrated an unsurpassed commitment to community service and activism.
The Adam D. Cockey, Jr. Community Leadership Award was launched in honor of Adam Cockey’s dedication to the real estate industry and for his outstanding philanthropic efforts. After dedicating over 40 years to local, regional and national organizations, Adam serves as a positive role model for real estate professionals throughout MRIS’s geographic footprint and beyond.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), the Maryland Association of REALTORS® (MAR), and the Greater Baltimore Board of REALTORS® (GBBR), Adam served as the MRIS Chairman of the Board from 2001-2008.
Adam’s professional recognitions include the National Association of REALTORS® Omega Tan Rho Award, MAR REALTOR® of the year, the MAR Life Achievement Award, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Sean Gray Award for Outstanding Service and the Piper & Company Best Competitor Award. Adam has had involvement with numerous civic and community activities, including the Baltimore Symphony Foundation, the League for the Disabled, and the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Most notably, Adam’s active participation in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis helped the local Maryland chapter raise over $1 million for the first time in history.
“Adam’s commitment to community helped inspire the creation of MRIS Cares, MRIS’s philanthropic outreach committee that has generated over $100,000 in donations and over 100 hours of service to various causes,” said MRIS President and CEO David Charron. “We thank Adam for continuing to be an inspiration to the community and look forward to his legacy living on through this award.”
The Adam D. Cockey, Jr. Community Leadership Award recipient will portray leadership, humanitarianism, courage, enthusiasm, and dedication to the community. Nominations are open to MRIS customers until July 31, 2012. This year’s winner will be announced in August.
