Virtual Tour Vendor Information

What Virtual Tour vendors has MRIS^® authorized to process tour URLs?  Can customers submit their own virtual tours?

No, customers are not permitted to submit their own virtual tours.

However, MRIS has authorized the following vendors to submit virtual tours directly to the MRIS Web server, free-of-additional-charge:

The URL for a tour residing on the authorized vendor's dedicated server should be uploaded to MRIS's MLS database, Matrix^®, directly via an Internet-based, form-submission process utilizing a password-protected Web page. The tours themselves reside on the respective vendor's server, not on the MRIS Web server, and must be available 24/7. A tour uploaded to a qualifying listing - Active, Contingent/No Kickout, Contingent/Kickout, Contract or Application Registered - should be available for display with that listing in all MRIS products - Matrix, HomesDatabase.com and in brokers' IDX Web sites through MRIS's Bridge^® product - within 20 minutes of the vendor uploading the URL. In the event there is an issue with a tour not being displayed on any of our site(s), please contact the respective tour vendor directly.

At this time, MRIS is accepting applications for authorization to process virtual tour URLs to our MLS database only from commercial virtual tour vendors.  A commercial virtual tour vendor must be able to market their business to the general public as well as to our membership.

Note: Customers are not allowed to upload their own virtual tour URLs; they must use an authorized vendor of MRIS.

If a vendor has yet to apply for authorization regarding this free service of MRIS, they should submit a request to do so and include the URL of a sample virtual tour, along with contact information as follows: 

• name,
• title,
• company name,
• business license number,
• complete company address,
• company/direct phone and fax numbers,
• email address and
• corporate Website address, if applicable

for the one person who will serve as liaison between the vendor and MRIS, to Virtual Tour Vendors Service group (virtual.tours@mris.net). The applicant should note if they intend to upload tour URLs manually or via an automated process of their own design and if they intend to market their vending services to our customer base in general or are processing tours for one client (member, broker, company or franchise) exclusively.

Please note that, in order to comply with the mandate of the National Association of REALTORS^® (NAR^®) regarding Internet Data Exchange (IDX) rules, it is MRIS policy that tours must:

• be unbranded, i.e. void of any identification of either the listing agent(s) or the listing broker(s) - visually or audibly - because the focus of a virtual tour should be on the listed real property to which it is attached, however:

  • identification of your company as the authorized vendor is allowed;

  • a "glimpse" of the listing broker's yard sign, with or without the listing agent's rider, in a panoramic tour as long as the camera does not focus so long on it as to seem stationary, is allowed;

  • photos/frames of community recreational facilities are allowed,

  • photos/frames of the views afforded by the subject property are allowed; and

  • the subject property's relationship to its immediate neighborhood is allowed;

• be World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) compliant (see www.w3.org); and
• if required to be viewable, have Java applets readily downloadable from the vendor's site.

A member of the Virtual Tours group in MRIS's Virtual Tour Vendors Service group, will review the applicant's work product.  If found to comply with MRIS's policies the new vendor's record will be created.  Security credentials and instructions for accessing the URL of the MRIS Website for the Virtual Tour Control Panel will be emailed to the vendor's contact person.
